2013 NGIT

I can’t seem to find the winner of this tournament on Chess Life Online. It looks like, on MSA, that there was a two-way tie, but which player won on tiebreak?

Perhaps it would help if you gave the event ID, ‘NGIT’ might not mean much to most people, it doesn’t to me.

I’m sorry. Here.

Apurva’s opponents went 3, 3.5, 4, 5, 4.5, 3.5
so recalculating the tie-breaks we have MMed 20.5, Solkoff 23.5, Cumulative 18.5

Aks hita’s opponents went 2.5, 3.5, 4.5, 5, 4.5, 4.5
so recalculating the tie-breaks we have MMed 22, Solkoff 24.5, Cumulative 18.5

Reversing the result of the final round DeLand-Ravi game would have reversed the tie-break edge.

If Aks hita had only drawn tournament-leading Michelle in the final round then Michelle would have had the following opponents: 3.5, 3.5, 3.5, 3.5, 5, 4.5 for 20, 24, 19.5. Apurva’s tie-breaks with have remained essentially the same (flip the scores of the opponents in rounds 4 and 5).

From
alchess.com/chess/13/ngit/?p … ction=ngit
it looks like they just awarded the same scholarship prize to the co-champions ($650 each) while Michelle got a $300 scholarship without splitting and the $50 best game prize.

Jeff,

Maybe you could misspell #### slightly to escape the clutches of the auto-censor.

Of course, a look at the crosstable clarifies the question and the answer.
