Annual Rating List Question.
On the 2008 Annual Rating list many names have an asterisk after their regular ratings and their quick ratings. I cannot figure out what the asterisk is for?
Thanks

If there is an asterisk, that means it is an established rating, ie one based on 26 or more games. Otherwise, it is a provisional rating, which is indicated by a slash, followed by the number of games the rating is based upon.
I don’t know when the tradition of showing established ratings with an asterisk started, but it’s a tradition!
Another feature to the list is that there will sometimes be a question mark after the state code. That means that we may not have a current address for that individual, usually because mail has been returned as undeliverable, so the state information may not be reliable.
