What a shame that Benko has decided to retire his column. Of course he has more than earned his ‘retirement,’ but the magazine will be the worse for its absence. Is someone going to continue writing monthly on endgames?
Dan Lucas reads here regularly and he’ll likely see your post without my help. Nevertheless, I’ve sent him an email to ensure he’s aware of the question.
I don’t want to rush to a decision about what to do with a space occupied for 45 years by a legend. I am carefully reviewing various options, from continuing the same column with a new writer to starting a brand new column to simply covering endgames in feature format rather than as a monthly column. Certainly, member input is welcomed and will be taken into consideration so I’m anxious to hear what others have to say.

I think it’s important that there’s a high-level monthly column on chess itself. Alburt & Pandolfini do an excellent job for beginners to intermediate, and Soltis mixes chess & meta-chess very enjoyably.
Any column devoted to high-level chess will naturally include some endgame coverage…
Not every month’s issue will feature a hard-core event like the Sinquefield Cup.
