Come on, TV writers of this show, you’ve GOT to do an episode where they visit the chess scene, a club or tournament. Far more material than the comic store. Any old tournament player on this forum probably has enough material to write hours worth of material!
How about a visit to a courtroom or a lawyer’s office?
If you are saying that chessplayers are nerds , I resemble the remark!
Bazinga!
My wife, daughter and I have Bazinga tee shirts…
At the Chicago Open there was a player wearing a rock-paper-scissors-lizard-Spock t-shirt.
Well, they’ve done:
-
A 3D chess scene between Leonard and Sheldon, mostly for a throwaway joke (Sheldon: “It must be humbling to suck on so many levels.”)
-
The bizarre Mission Impossible Laser Chess scene, where players have to navigate a laser detection web to get to the board to make their move, and
-
A scene last season where Leonard teaches Penny to play and is promptly beaten by her. Which implies that as nerdy as they are, they would get crushed at any tournament, probably by Pasadena’s chess playing 7 year olds. Though that would be pretty funny
- Season four with Sheldon and three-person chess
When it comes to chess, Penny is an idiot savant.
Yes, they’ve touched on chess, but a visit to a club or tournament needs to be done!

A gunman mistakenly invaded a chess club. He commanded, “Alright. Don’t nobody move.” Did they ever laugh at him. And die.
@David Ames - funny!
While the Big Bang Theory gets a wider audience, the Hulu-only show “Endgame” features a world-contender GM who goes into seclusion at a hotel and solves crimes to pay for the room and board. Most episodes feature excerpts from serious chess games that are plot elements. Seriously, folks, this is as good as it gets, short of Shelby Lyman on national TV during the 1972 world championship.
