I am going to miss Bob. He was a character that entertained us all with his wit and chess stories. My last meal with him several years ago inspired me to eventually self publish my two books.
This is a real downer. A good chunk of my chess book collection was purchased from Bob back in the 1990s, when I may have been his best customer. I’ve also met him several times at tournaments. As Tim said, he was a character, and one of my favorite people in the chess community. I am sorry he’s gone, and even sorrier about how it happened. Auto theft is a big problem in my city, too, but they generally don’t combine it with murder. I remain unable to understand the kind of person who could do something like this.
RIP, Bob. Thank you for the distinctive books you published and your service to the chess community for over 45 years. Despite the challenges in making a living from a chess business you had an unflagging spirit for it. Condolences to your family.
