Booster Tournaments

I see in the August Chess Life (page 60, Acitivity Means Members) that a USCF Booster Tournament that offers at least 2 USCF membership renewal prizes is eligible for a free 8 line TLA.

Anyone have any experience running a booster tournmant? What are the logisitics of awarding the renewals? Once I have my two winners, do I just jump into TD/A and do a membership batch?

For those who have run booster tournaments, have players liked the renewal prize? Or would they rather have the $$?

Joan says we process anywhere from 10 to 20 free ‘activity means members’ TLAs a month, so they must be working for someone!

I am very interested in this concept, and would like to learn more. So if you are running
these, please inform.

Is “Booster Tournament” defined anywhere? I looked at the reference, and it was not clear there.

Alex, the ad defined “booster tournament” as a tourney that offers at least two USCF membership renewal prizes, or a quad that offers at least one per section.

But is that it? For (absurd) example, could the World Open be considered a “Booster” if it offered membership renewal as 24th and 25th prizes in the open section?

BTW, in answer to your first question, I would assume that no further documentation is necessary, and you could submit the memberships normally under TD/Affiliate.

If you have other ideas that are working for you, esp, in this area, please inform

Technically, yes, it would meet the definition. But I can’t imagine the World Open TLA fitting in eight or fewer lines.
