Buck Memorial Service, Online Daily Chess, CSCC May Recap & More

Greetings,

On May 6th, 2026 Richard “Buck” Buchanan passed away. He was a long-time officer for the Colorado Springs Chess Club and a 5-time City Champ. His daughter Diana sent me a text saying his memorial service is scheduled for August 1st and more details will follow.

In addition to running the Colorado Springs Chess Club, he was head monk at the Colorado Renaissance Festival as long as I can remember. The festival starts this Saturday and runs for 8 weekends! If you are going, be sure to stop by the Chess Booth, just below the Queen’s Pantry and about the Castle Rose Stage. Here

With the number of players declining on Sunday nights for live chess, I have promoted Larry Wutt (PawnPusher59) to Coordinator of the online club. His main job will be to organize the club’s Daily Events. He asked if I could create a poll to get the members feedback about what preferences they have for Daily chess. So, I have updated the club’s contact form with a new poll question (at the bottom of the form):

Give us your feedback about Daily Chess online:

The results from the club selling our books had the following results:

Yes = 63.6% - 14 responses

No = 18.2 - 4 responses

John Graybill was pleasantly surprised to see Paul and Brandon absent for week 4 to claim his second 1st place prize since June 2024!

This is Aman here. I know it has been a few months since we last contacted you, but we are still in need of participants…

There has also been an update to the study: The optional zoom session is now compensated for in the form of a $10 Amazon Gift Card. Let us know if you hear back from anyone, thanks!
