Some variants on the ratings charts came up in a discussion this week, and one of the suggestions was a candlestick chart.
So I thought I’d see what one looked like for someone:
It does capture most information which old MSA graph show: instead of every single post-event ratings, just monthly open/close/min/max…
I miss the old MSA graphs
It should not be a static one size fits all display.
It should have sliders/filters (think any financial site when looking at positions over time) so the consumer picks what is best for what they are trying to see. Stacking different rating systems tends to distort the scaling and personally I would not use.
Of course, this should be a low priority cosmetic item.
One of the items on the planning board (I think it was approved for the upcoming development sprint) is a user toggle between published and post-event ratings. I"m not sure if a date range slide is included.
Having presets for toggles would require logging in to the ratings site so we know who you are. That would also allow us to offer other member-specific preference settings, including things like selecting where specific features appear on screen.
Candlestick charts are at this point just an idea under discussion, not anything on the planning schedule. Yeah, they’d need some customization, such as monthly vs quarterly or even yearly bars. I just wanted to post some to get some feedback on them. If there’s not a lot of interest in them, this idea won’t go much further.
I use them for stock market charting which is their primary purpose. (They were supposedly invented by a Japanese rice trader in the 1800’s and he used them to corner the rice market and become very wealthy.)
What is that - vertical lines from pre-post ratings in either green or red based on direction?
A green box means the rating went up during the time period, a red box means it went down, the top and bottom of the box represent the open and close, the thin lines above and below the box show the highs and lows.
This chart was for an older active player, one for a rising young star might be more interesting.
Ah, so not event by event but time period by time period.
