Carl was Treasurer of the Illinois Chess Association from 2005 to 2012, then served as its President from 2013 until he and his wife moved to metro Indianapolis in 2016. He was a partner at McGladrey before he took early retirement for health issues related to juvenile diabetes. Carl’s handle on this forum was PegLeg.
Carl was one of the nicest people I have ever known, in or out of the chess world.
Not only was Carl nice, he was smart, unflappable, funny (bacon, anyone?), an excellent leader, and always followed through on his promises, in spite of formidable health challenges.
IIRC, Carl had recently received a lifetime achievement award from US Chess.
