Mostly this is for Mike. I just reread the FAQ and didn’t see this specifically addressed, other than maybe to contact the office. I submitted a tournament today that should have been named Lakeview Fall 2009 and instead somehow named it Upper. (It has two sections - Upper and Lower) I can live with that. But if it is easy to change somehow it probably long term would be better named as Lakeview Fall 2009.
Once an event is rated (technically, once it has been submitted for rating), all subsequent changes must be made by the USCF office. (This information in the ‘Frequent Questions’ document on the TD/A website.)
Was this tournament paired using an older version of WinTD by any chance?
I did send an email to Walter Brown about it with all the info.
I used version 8 of SwissSys. I’m not exactly sure of what I did to do this. It has never happened before.
One thing might have been that I registered all the players in one section and then created two new sections (Upper and Lower) and moved players into those. Then I removed the original section from the section list.
This might have caused the tournament name to default to Upper. But it seems like I have done that before and it has never happened. I will keep a closer eye on things next time I submit a tournament.
If it helps any I also had trouble with the submission process and had to submit it twice for it to take.
There is/was a quirk in WinTD where it would pick up something other than the event name, but it may only occur in team events. I’m not sure what caused this one.
Swiss-Sys 8 automatically attaches a default name to all rating reports (I think it’s whatever name you gave to the .tmt file) unless you remember to override it. This was supposed to be time-saving improvement on 7, but I find it slightly annoying since I often have multiple events which will be rated separately on the screen at the same time.
I just checked the .tmt name and it is temptnmt in the folder that I saved to. It also shows up as the tournament name in the Tournament setup section in SwissSys.
Ahh but when you run the (Rating Report for USCF module) it takes the name of the section you are in as the tournament title. In this case I was in the Upper section when I created the rating report. In my test senario just now I was in the Lower section and it defaulted to Lower for the tournament title. So since this is the first time that this has happened to me with SwissSys 8 I can only assume that I experienced an extreme case of overconfidence. My bad.
