I think the recommended amount of increment or delay listed in the rulebook for quick-only time controls should be 3 to 10 (currently it’s just 3). I see nothing wrong with a time control like G/15;inc10 (the time control of the World Rapid Championship btw). Also, I noticed the National G/15 Championship at the US Open this year was played with a 5 second delay so US Chess itself isn’t even following the recommendation in the rulebook to use a 3 second increment or delay for this type of time control!

Let’s say the current recommendation in the rulebook was 3 to 10 for quick and 2 to 5 for blitz and I suggested changing it to just 3 for quick and 2 for blitz. People would say that doesn’t make sense since a fair number of tournaments have used an increment or delay of longer than 3 in quick and longer than 2 in blitz and has worked well. Looking at it this way shows it would be better for the recommendation to be 3 to 10 for quick and 2 to 5 for blitz.

With G/3;inc2 being quite a bit more popular than G/5;d0 now, it’s time for blitz rule 1a, “Standard time control (TC) for blitz is G/5 with no delay“, to be eliminated. Anyone willing to sponsor an ADM on this next year?
