Chess in Sporting News

A few topics ago there were mixed reviews on Payton and Eli playing chess in the off season (which was a great inclusion of the game, no insult when you have the Mannings involved!).

The current issue of a popular sports magazine has a one-page article on advice for college sophomore quarterbacks…#3 is to play chess. Outside of the title there’s no other mention of the game, but the advice given in the write-up applies equally to both playing fields whether 100yds or 64 squares.

Might I add…the photographer paid attention to the board too. Even the notches of the bishops and rooks are set consistently. Too bad they forgot about “Queen on its color”…see the white royalty  . Doesn’t change the good PR though! See the scan below.

It’s so difficult to tell those pieces apart.

Thanks for posting. We seem to see this all too often.
