Chess Team matches via Internet

All you need is a free internet chess server account. Set the time for the teams to meet. Log in. Challenge your opponent. Play. I know people and teams (mostly high school and middle school kids) that do this. I regularly play a buddy in my old town this way. It’s not new. It’s not rocket science. It’s been around and being done for quite some time. The USCF is not needed unless you want a rating with the USCF. Most people could not care less about a USCF rating. That’s partly why in a nation with millions of people who regularly play chess, less than 90,000 are USCF members.

In my club’s particular case, though, the attempt is to offer a way for play between members of different local clubs (without the travel expenses.)

Is the USCF or ICA strictly necessary for this? Perhaps not. But it is helpful (especially the latter.) It may also have a desirable side-goal of increasing fellowship among members of different local area clubs.

I’ve got some other ideas, should there not be any interest in this particular one. (Which there may not be. Certainly not all OTB players are interested in play by Internet at all.)

There’s definitely some truth to this statement. Once you’ve played few a number of years, a few points here and there don’t matter as much. And yes, most 2000+ rated players already have some years of experience. By the way, some masters may not care about their USCF rating but care a lot about FIDE.
