Iām sure the validation process would freak out. I submitted some matches using swiss-sys to create the files. Since swiss-sys does not have a match option for tournament type, during validation it made note of the multiple games against other player. Once I recoded it as a match, it had no problem.
As I recall, the current upload format doesnāt even have a tournament (or section) type field in it. Thatās one of several fields that were added in 2005.

Although it āfreaks outā, it does allow you to override it. In a 3-division/9-section per division tournament with team trophies at the division level (the organizer came up with the format and looked for a director with a level of sanity questionable enough to run it), I had one section with four players in a five-round division. If I just did a quad then their teams would have fewer rounds to get points from for the team score, so I went five rounds with each playing two of the other three players twice. Once I overrode the āerrorā, it processed fine.
Jerry, are you sure you had to override it?
As I recall it notates that players have played each other more than once but thatās not considered either an error or a warning.

Itās been six months, so I canāt say for certain.

Bill, do you want to win the āmost rhetorical question of the weekā award?
Itās only rhetorical until somebody does it. Your question implies nobody has done it yet ā which surprises me.
