DGT 3000

In one of the CLO columns about some tournament, the author mentioned that one of the GMs was testing out the DGT 3000 clock. Google is not my friend. I can’t seem to find out anything about it. Can anyone help?

A new DGT clock was tested at the Southern Open and the Hartford Open. I don’t remember whether it was called the DGT 3000.

Here’s my first hit googling for DGT 3000 clock:

dgtshop.nl/index.php/209/1/d … 0-3-detail

Yes, I think that’s the clock we were testing.

Thanks. I didn’t find that a few days ago.

I was in Tromso when I saw this clock as it’s being tested by FIDE as well for compliance with their clock requirements.

Some of the features I was told about by DGT was that the clocks will be able to be controlled from a central location and that actual messages can be sent across and shown on the display also.

Nice! I assume this requires purchase of a separate hub like the MonRoi?

Seriously? 74.37 euro for the clock? More than $100?

Sevan,
From reading the manual I don’t see this capability mentioned at all. To me this looks like a DGT XL with a larger display. The only messages that can be displayed are the moves when you are playing connected to a computer with a DGT board. The XL can do that too.

When I was in Tromso I was speaking with the head of DGT and he was telling me of this capability. I will check with him again and see what he says.

http://www.digitalgametechnology.com/site/index.php/dgtsupport/developer-info/downloads/doc_download/271-dgt-3000-manual has the owner’s manual pdf.

From the manual: “Accuracy: Better than 1 second per hour”.

That’s not a very impressive bound. That’s about 1/50th of the accuracy of a typical battery powered analog quartz clock or watch. That sounds like they are just using the built in oscillator of whatever microcontroller they use, instead of adding a crystal oscillator.

I’d kind of expect people selling a $100 clock to splurge and spend the $0.50 for a crystal oscillator.

That’s the same accuracy the DGT 2010 and the DGT NA claim. I don’t see any accuracy claims in the manuals I have for other common clocks (Excalibur, Saitek, ZMF, Chronos). I wonder if they are similar?

I’d still buy it. Looks like a well made clock. But I’d hold off until I read some reviews on it’s durability and noise level when pushing the clock.

In any event, at the current exchange rate, it would be ~$95 U.S. dollars. Of course that’s subject to change, but currently the dollar is on a upward trend.
