Does quick chess retard development?

"As you can see, young talented Chinese players are improving very quickly, but there aren’t so many young players from Korea.

Dr Bai pointed out that many of the official Korean matches are lightning games, so players can’t play creatively in the opening and that could make them weaker. In Chinese domestic games the players have more time to think.

According to Dr Bai, China has already started to overwhelm Korea, and if nothing is done about it, after three years, Korea won’t be able to stand against China in Go anymore."

Ok, it is about another game, but ‘chess’ could be substituted for ‘Go’ and the question remains the same.

Quick chess and slow chess both help build chess development.

As usual, those who most need the quick chess experience (to speed up and sharpen their thinking and help get out of time trouble situations) are those most opposed to playing quick chess.

The same is true of slow chess. Those who most need it are the quickest to hold it in disdain.

If you hate blitz, play blitz. If you hate slow, play slow. You’ll be better for it.

Playing chess is not learning chess. Playing quick chess will help you find areas you need to improve.
You and your coach can work on your weaknesses.
