Current TD certification rules refer in numerous places to events which are quick-rated. These were of course written when there was no blitz rating system (and as of today, there still isn’t).
When the new blitz rating system goes into effect (presumably spring 2013), will blitz events count as equal to quick-rated events for certification purposes, not count at all, or count for some partial credit?
I suspect the real answer is this hasn’t been addressed yet by TDCC, but thought I’d throw the question out anyway.
A very good question. As someone notated in an email exchange on planning for implementation of USCF rated Blitz chess, it creates lots of ripples. We’ve already had to ask the Board to pass a motion modifying the Grand Prix rules to ensure that Blitz events can be Grand Prix events, since they weren’t explicitly mentioned in the GP rules, though Quick events were.
I would certainly hope that running such tournaments would
never be a burden on any tournament director. Real chess
events are consuming enough as they are without this type
of event. (Old School)
