Endgame Tablebases can be used in correspondence games, but what is the etiquette regarding their use? Does one inform the opponent when a tablebase position is reached? Is it considered rude to play on in a forced lost or drawn position? Just curious. I don’t play CC anymore.
The elo increase using tablebases is minimal, and generally useless if you looking at a position where and underpromotion would checkmate the opponent, or at least shorten the game to a quicker mate.
I suppose if you had all the 6 man tablebases (-there are some 7 man positions that have been calculated), it might make a marginal improvement. As far as 4 and 5 man tablebases, its gain is miminal or non existant, and most chess programs include the 3/4/5 man tablebases anyway.
I always appreciate when someone takes the time to respond to a post. However, your reply seems to be directed more towards how useful are tablebases, rather than the etiquette of their use. Do you have any comments related to my original comments?
I think its understood that computer assisted games would include the use of tablebases. So no, you wouldn’t have to announce that your chess engine is using a tablebase.
I don’t play corr games, so someone that actively knows the rules can shed more accurrate light on the rules.
I haven’t played correspondence for a very long time, but I don’t see the difference between calling the tablebase to the opponent’s attention & citing Averbach.
“Hey buddy, Google 'Shredder tablebase’ and resign already” would be a bit rude.
