Just ranting….

I’m a numbers/rating nut. And I find it frustrating to see that now Fide shows player’s rating history only back to 2023.

For instance, Ding Liren: Ding, Liren FIDE Profile

Clicking on the progress tab would usually show the published rating history back to 2000. Now it goes back only to 2023.

It’s been like this a couple of months and I figured, ok, they are doing some updates and it’s temporary. But it hasn’t changed. What are they thinking? Who is in the right mind in that organization thought listing rating history back to 2023 is sufficient?

Has incompetence truly permeated the entire organization? The rating history of the players is one of FIDE’s most valuable assets. Why hide it?

It looks like it it is there.

Just the graph. But if you scroll down the rating history ends at 2023. It used to go back to 2000.

If you hover on the graph, it does show the ratings by month but the tabular list only goes back a few years.

We have that data in our system going back to about 2003, maybe we can display it on MUIR? I’ll bring it up at a staff meeting next week.

Displaying FIDE ratings in MUIR would be super awesome - again, for a ratings/numbers nut like me it’s like a dream :slight_smile:

However, I still can’t figure out why FIDE would remove the tabular rating history. Take for instance the sample player I used, Ding Liren. History goes back to 2023. If I didn’t know better, I’d have no idea that he used to live in in the 2800s for years.

Maybe I am over analyzing this, but I feel like the person sitting at the FIDE office deciding that the rating history goes back to 2023 is not even a chess player. No true chess player with any chess culture would make such a call. Since you can see the older ratings by hovering over the graph, obviously the data is still there. Not showing it on the rating history page saves no significant resources.

Another mystery: it seems like no one else complains about this. I thought all chess fans enjoy browing rating histories of players :slight_smile:

That the graph includes rating history well prior to 2023, making your opening premise (that there is no history prior to 2023) inaccurate.

I figured it was obvious from the posts in this topic that the discussion is about the tabular listing of rating history for FIDE players. It has always gone back to 2000, since the early 2000’s. A few months ago they removed most of it except back to 2023. Yes, the graph contains the data points but if I may be honest, the graph simply sux. Not because it’s a bad graph, but because it is insufficient. When I look at a player I want at a glance to see the rating history. Same if you go to MUIR or the old USCF ratings, where you can see all the published ratings far back (to 1991) - at a glance. Not by clicking around or trying to figure points on a line graph.
