Has anyone who has checked the “Remember Me” box on the forum sign in page noticed that it doesn’t now? I’m asked for my password everytime I come back.
Yep. When I upgraded my IE (XP operating system) it started. I switched to Firefox and the problem went away. On my Vista laptop I upgraded my firefox recently and the problem once again reared it’s ugly head.
I suspect some sort of setting changed when the upgrades were installed; however, I have no clue as to where to look for that setting or what it would be called. Or, I could be way off base here.
Saving passwords works for me on IE, Firefox and Safari, though maybe you have a more recent version of those programs than the ones I routinely use.
Try deleting all cookies from uschess.org, that seems to fix several types of problems.
Mozilla Firefox is browser of choice. I deleted the cookie (documents\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Cookies) and still can’t get back on with Firefox. Microsoft Explorer didn’t give me a problem though.
I’m not sure that’s where the cookies are for Firefox on a PC, but I’m working from my Mac this weekend so I can’t check.
I generally use the pulldowns within Firefox to delete cookies.
I’m using Chrome in Windows Vista, and it’s working fine.
Your Vista is working fine? Now THAT’S surprising!
Vista has always worked fine for me. Now, maybe that’s because I run it in “classic” (i.e., Windows 98 Throwback) mode, rather than flashy s00p3rgr4f1x mode, but it puts the lie to the Macintosh Gospel (“Every Windows OS Is Chronically Unstable”). And I’m no cheerleader for earlier versions of Windows, which did crash an awful lot.

For me it visually looks like my password has not been remembered. But then…
When I click the ‘Forums’ link anyway, it works and then recognizes me (adds my name, says “0 new messages”).
(IE 8, on Win7)

Firefox remembers me, mostly, until I upgrade it. Then it doesn’t.
I think it also doesn’t remember me from session to session if I’ve declared that the network I’m using is Public in Windows 7. But I think that’s a security feature, not a bug. (I could be totally wrong about this, though… Haven’t tried to systematically study it.)
Once in the last four days it didn’t ask for a password. I’m using Windows 7 & Firefox.
It seems like Firefox has done a lot of upgrades lately. I think I had 3 of them this past week. It seems after an upgrade it doesn’t automatically log me in. My information will be filled in, but I have to hit the login button. I run OS 10 on my Mac.
I think I was given the solution. My cookie policy (don’t remember setting it) was to accept 3rd party cookies until I got out of Firefox. Changed the option to “until they expire” and thus far it is OK.
Not only do I have that problem but when I log in a page comes up telling me my login failed…but it didn’t! I’m logged in but the USCF site tells me I’m not. Very odd!
I notice this also when I use my laptop running Vista but not with my desktop XP operating system.
Very odd…
I see this from time to time, deleting cookies from uschess.org usually fixes it for me.
Cookie settings may be a factor, too. (IE used to have a problem with cookies that drove me nuts, but I’ve heard reports that they may have finally fixed that in one of the recent versions.)
