Funny little sportsmanship story

Sometimes, when i played in a tournament, dad would come up to take me to lunch. Occasionally, the game wasn’t done yet. He would sit where he could, reading a paper, waiting for the game to end. Once in awhile he would walk over, look at the game, then walk away

One time the game was over (it was a draw). My dad, a very outgoing guy, came over, put his hand on my opponent's shoulder and said "hey pal, ya played a helluva game". Then as we walked away, he said to me "Bruce, who won?".........

You see, Dad knew nothing about chess besides the fact that I was interested in it. Didn’t know the rules. Nothing. Probably didn’t know how many squares were on the board…

Yeah, but your Dad knew a lot about life…

There is no substitute for it, My father always said, " You can't stand by a fence post for 60 years and not know something about fence posts"

Did he know a lot about “fencepost errors” (off-by-one errors) in computer programs (and other logic situations), also?

Bill Smythe

I am not sure if my Father ever saw a computer, but he lived a good honest life. His word was his bond, he worked 14 to 18 hours a day to support, his wife and 12 children, and made sure all 12 graduated High School, with 9 finishing College. When he died, all the bills were paid, including a 60 acre farm, And there was money in the bank, so that my Mother did not have to worry about anything. Not bad for a dirt farming, truck driver, with a 7th grade education. Yeah! I would say He must have known something about Logic, as well as good common sense. He was married to the same woman for 52 years (my mother) I can never remember hearing them argue about anything, He always said my mother was right, even when she was wrong. And now 23 years after my mother has passed, I have learned he was right.
What is your point?
