FM Greg DeFotis was one of the strongest players in the Midwest in the 1960s and 1970s. He played in the 1972 US Championship and represented the USA in the 1969 and 1972 World Student Team championships.

I only had one (long and pleasant) conversation with him more than a decade ago. Mutual friends in and out of chess tell me that he was both brilliant and personable.
