"halt at end" with Bronstein mode

OK, I’m still trying to get my brain around this one, but what do you do with Bronstein (non-cumulative addback) mode if there is no “halt at end”? That is, what if a player goes to -1 seconds, makes a move, and is restored to four seconds on his clock. How should such a situation be handled?

What model of what clock are you specifically referring to, or is this an abstract question that has no specfic answer?

If the time goes to -1, isn’t that a flag fall that should be indicated in some
fashion?

in all models i’ve tested there needs to be at least a fraction of a second remaining for the “Bronstein” mode to add 5 seconds.
“halt at end” refers to the opponent’s (the one with time remaining) time display.

This is just a hypothetical question. I’m trying to come up with rules that are fair that can be used with the professor’s board that I discussed in another thread.

Alex Relyea

The answer to your hypothetical question would be a defective clock.

If the professor’s clock continues to add 5 seconds even after the player’s time is expired, then you should politely explain to the professor that he cannot use that clock. Let him use his fancy board, if his opponent agrees, but insist on an external clock.
