Former British Chess Champion William Hartston defeated American Chess Master Etan Ilfeld in the very first Diving Chess competition. Ilfeld invented Diving Chess, which is like regular chess except that players must remain underwater for the duration of their turn and only surface when they are ready to make a move.

Interesting idea. Should average 30 seconds per move. But I somehow doubt that oxygen-starved brains will lead to good chess.
