Initial Listings on MSA

Gee Micah, USCF may not have received the last event they played in. My events get rated in a few hours, so I expect there to be very few events that were not = to Last Rated Event being the same as Last Event played in.

I guess it all depends how you parenthesize it. Does “Last Rated Event” mean “(Last Rated) Event” (i.e. event last rated) or “Last (Rated Event)” (i.e. most recently played of all the rated events)?

Unfortunately, the English language is not always associative. Needless to say, this is a matter of huge importance. :smiling_imp:

Yes, but not all TD’s are as good at submitting events as fast

It means event last rated and not most recently played of all the rated events

Hey, while we’re talking about how MSA works, I’d like to request one simple but meaningful change:

Put a “Back to search” or “New search” link on every search result and player information page.

Backing up in the browser always requires a reload. It’s a pain. And this is such an easy problem to fix.

That may not be a ‘simple’ change.

The most frustrating thing about being a computer programmer is that the easy things sometimes look hard, and the hard things sometimes look easy.

My experience as a programmer tells me that

  • Putting the button there would be a simple change.
  • Getting the button to work might not be so easy.

What’s involved besides linking back to uschess.org/assets/msa_joomla/MbrLst.php.

No button is required, just a link.

Why don’t you start from this page instead:

uschess.org/msa/

The member searches which come from that page do have a “New Search” link.

. . . because I never knew that page existed.

Is there a way to get to it from the home page?

Not that I know of. If it’s there they’ve done a really good job of hiding it.

Instead of left-clicking on somebody I just right-click and open a new tab. That leaves the old tab available and quite often I find myself going back to what was selected anyway.

If you take the ‘extended search’ link from member search link in the left menu, that gets you to the ‘non-framed’ MSA pages, where the back arrow is a bit more likely to work as expected. IMHO, there are conceptual flaws in the back arrow concept in most browsers anyway. Among other things, it is hard to disable it for those occasions when that would be desirable.

If a player has no tournament results since January 1, 1991 it says for the ‘Last Rated Event’ that “There are no USCF rated events for this player.” I think it would be good to add “since January 1, 1991.” to the end of this. This would be similar to what it says on the Tnmt. Hst. Tab “There are no tournament results for this member since Jan. 1, 1991”.
