Carlsen’s first couple months as world champion have been great for chess. Can’t say the same about FIDE’s conduct during the same time.

Olafsson is on the sunny side of 80: perhaps all parties would find him acceptable as a one-term president?

My mother always said that even if you were not corruptible, once you became a politician there was no hope for you holding onto that value.
