The video is on chessbase.com this morning. I applaud Jen’s plug for what appears to be a very interesting book on Duchamp and chess which I will no doubt buy at the opportune moment (when my wife isn’t looking).
However, the idea of sitting across from a naked male while playing chess/discussing Duchamp, seems too derivative of Duchamp’s previous escapade. While it is fair to turn the tables on Duchamp, the turn comes fifty plus years too late to have the cultural meaning as parody that it would have had before Heffner’s launch and establishment of Playboy as an icon of the American male psyche. So much has happened since then. Perhaps it would have been more appropriate to have both players naked with the game being played by Chapel Waste and Joanna Angel.
