I looked around on the forums for answers about Online Chess Teachers but did not find specific answers to my questions. If there are answers, a simple link would be appreciated. Here are my questions:
Who do you like as an Online Teacher for you (the parent) or your child? This question is for the parent’s perspective, but if you are in 12th grade or lower I’d be interested in your answer as well.
Which Chess Teachers are using Skype with a Web Cam? I am looking for people who are experienced with this technology as the face-to-face experience is important to me.
If you have used Live Online Chess instruction, will you continue? Why or why not?
I have had lessons from two IMs who used Skype, but not the webcam version.
I have taken lessons from another IM who used the telephone.
All are excellent.
If you PM me, i can give you more details. If you find the right teacher for yourself, you’ll find it well worthwhile, and more affordable than you might think.
But I know of no teacher who uses a webcam. Why would you want this? You just meet your teacher on the iCC and share a board and take it from there.
The web cam is not a must-have, but I like seeing the person I’m speaking to, and the technology is simple enough. My daughter was recently in Bulgaria and skype with a web cam was so much nicer than just a voice. I sent a PM, thanks for the response.
