# Local TD certification

Hi Gary:
The real advantage of becoming certified as a Local TD is the learning that takes place as you prepare for and take the test. Club TDs, especially in areas where experienced TDs are not there to help and teach need the feedback provided by the test. I think we do a disservice to both our members and the TDs we certify by not having them take a test. It is not perfect, but it helps.
This has been said before, but when you take the test 1. Take without using the rule book and record your answers on a piece of scrap paper. 2. Again take the test using the rulebook and double check each answer. 3. Now submit the answers as corrected when necessary.
PS, for every question, determine what the event time controls are, which control you are in, and if it is a time pressure situation before you answer. A great review is to grab your rule book when the tournament is quiet and research which rules change or apply in non or sudden death and in time pressure for each type of control. If you are running a blitz event, you need to read/review the blitz rules you are using.
