The chess club I started a couple of years ago is maturing to where the local guys are ready for tournament play. I decided to run this tournament at the beginning of the week and have missed the TLA deadline for Chess Life.

Below is the listing and I sure would like to see all of you that can make it come to play. The location is about an hour drive from Midway Airport in Chicago and about an hour drive from most of the other city areas in North Central Illinois.

I am having the prize fund be a whopping 85% of the entry fees. The 15% will go to pay for the affiliate fees of the Illinois Chess Association as well as the USCF. Being an officer of the Peoria chess club, I have run this new club as a subsidiary of the Peoria affiliate.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing all of you come to play chess at my tournament.

You may have missed the TLA deadline, but you can still list this as a free online listing! That way if someone looks under Illinois on the web site for tournaments they could find your tournament. You put it in yourself, it then reviewed, and finally it will list on the web site. As it is not a regular TLA, but only an online listing, it will show at the end of all the other listings that were TLAs. Still it can be listed online.

By putting it in the Online TLA Service, you also get it into TLA Mail, which can notify players about your event via email twice, once when it is first released for online display and again two weeks before it begins.

Is TLA mail a new feature? Please give some details of how to use.

TLA Mail is not really new, I think it started around two years ago, but it has been substantially enhanced in the last month. In addition to listing the events in the Online TLA Service, it now also lists those in Chess Life and/or Chess Life for Kids, including events for which the TLA is scheduled to be in an upcoming issue.

Go to [secure2.uschess.org/email/email-pref-update.php](https://secure2.uschess.org/email/email-pref-update.php). From there you can sign up for email services such as TLA Mail, (daily emails of upcoming events matching your criteria) and email notification when an event you played in is rated.

Alright, how would I go about submitting and posting a tournament announcement for this online TLA?

Under your affiliate ID, go to the TD/Affiliate page and click on

after that, just follow the directions.

Alright, I did that. I’m curious to see how long it takes to be posted on the Events web page.

I’ll also be curious to see when it comes in the email thing. I have signed up for it and receive the emails.

I also wonder how many USCF members know about this email service and how to sign up for it.

Joan usually reviews Online TLAs submitted for approval on a daily basis, but that might mean she won’t review it until Monday.

For those who have requested to be notified when an event is first available, it comes out in TLA Mail the day after it is approved for display online, ie, if it is approved on Monday it should be in the TLA Mail generated on Tuesday (shortly after midnight.)

As to how many people know about TLA Mail, there was an article about it on CLO last month. It is also being mentioned on emails we send new and renewing members as well as on emailed renewal notices. (We sent out nearly 10,000 renewal notices by email earlier this month.) It is also mentioned on the ‘player’ page on MSA.
