New TLA submission process

Has anyone else used the new and latest version of the online TLA submission process? I think the old version was much, much better. This new version is not something I like. If it is kept I may decide to no longer submit TLAs to USCF and only rely on word of mouth.

What don’t you like about it?

It makes me put in all the information that is already in the text version that I paste in.

Larry Cohen

I’m guessing this is to make the format more uniform from one TLA to another, which could simplify life for those who like to read TLAs.

I would also point out that it eliminated all my passwords, both personal [TD] and affiliate. Passwords and ID information should have carried over. I do want seperate IDs and passwords for myself [TD] and my affiliate.

Larry Cohen

The new system allows for the information to be propagated across all systems. Before everything moved from one system to another had to be done by hand.

Please note that affiliates do not have their own login anymore. You access your affiliate through your personal login now. More information can be found by viewing this article on how to submit a rating report at new.uschess.org/news/it-factor- … ng-reports

I’m sure the reason for all the check and text boxes is so that they have all of that information in readily searchable formats. Finding all those pieces of information in a large text block is problematical.

IMHO, one of the worst things we do in TLAs is code the information in ways that are totally unintelligible to newer members. I understand this practice evolved over many years to save print space in the magazine, but on the web it is worse than archaic, it is not user-friendly!

Eliminating multiple logins was one of the most-requested changes to the old TD/A system. Eventually there will be just one login for the entire website, right now we’re down to two, one for the Drupal-based new system (which eliminated separate logins for affiliates) and one for the old Joomla-based system.

So how or where do I get a proof of a TLA to ensure that either the USCF or myself have not made any errors before it goes to print? Is it somewhere on the USCF web site, or do I receive an email with the proof?

Larry Cohen

It doesn’t make sense to get a print proof until the office has reviewed the copy for completeness. That’s also consistent with how the old system worked.

The TLA feature wasn’t suppose to be released yet, so you may not be seeing everything that’s supposed to be there in the released version.

I think there are still a few features missing, like club ads, but Boyd has released the TLA feature to affiliates, it should be on the right hand menu for affiliates now. (There was another link to it that apparently wasn’t supposed to be there until the feature was released.)

Boyd is working on a blog post for the new TLA system, it should be up in a couple of days.
