Next years Bobby Fischer movie. Will be produced and starred by Tobey Maguire. You know him as Spider-Man . It will cover the 60s up to the Spaskey match. Who will play Abe Turner? Englishman Steven Knight wrote the most current draft of the project. Who will play Bob Wade? The big question who will play Ken “Top Hat” Smith ? ---

There are actually two Fischer movies in different stages of development right now: Pawn Sacrifice with Tobey Maguire, Directed by Ed Zwick and done by Maguire’s production company. Bobby Fischer Goes to War directed by Kevin Macdonald. MacDonald commented in April that this isn’t an active project right now, but apparently has garnered some renewed interest due to “Pawn Sacrifice”. ---

Not finding the copy of “Bobby Fischer Goes to War” but as I remember the research on the book was from newspaper articles and folk lore. Correct me if I am wrong. I hope Steven Knights script is better and covers the folks on 42nd street. ---

Kola Kwariani was an American chess master and professional wrestler. He weighed 250 pounds. Abe Turner was 280. Both played at the Chess and Checker Club of New York a few blocks from the Tudor hotel were Bobby stayed. ---

Far better would have been Nicholas Cage, back when Nick was in his late thirties. Joe Pesci for Boris Spassky is not quite right. . . ---

I’m walkin’ here! I’m walkin’ here! Crusing 42st. Might make a good movie but does not move the story along. Grandmaster Lothar Schmid is a man of means and owns the worlds largest chess book collection. Who ever plays him must be well dressed and wear a tie. Ed Edmondson was a CIA type. Ken 'What a player”Smith was a friendly chess book seller and trainer. Theodore Smith was an african-american clerk-typest at Chess Review. ---

Jack Beers was a person Bobby Fischer befriended and helped that did not try to take advantage of him. You can find many examples of others that did try to cash in on his fame. ---
