Parade Magazine

In Parade Magazine on 13 September, a reader from Oregon wrote in to ask if there were any woman chess masters. The response was a short paragraph about the Polgar sisters, and a photograph of Susan. This is on page 2, I think. In any event, the inside front cover.

No one said that Susan and Paul aren’t good at getting PR for themselves. Good PR for chess as well.

Members should see the thread “Feminism and Chess” started by Executive Board member Ruth Haring, in the USCF Issues section.

What, you think Parade magazine would be unable to find the Polgars as a suitable answer to a question about women chess masters without P/T PR? Or are you saying they wrote the question to provoke Parade to unwittingly augment their PR efforts? Joe, I think your first sentence was unnecessary. Referring readers to the Haring thread, on the other hand, was a good idea.

After what I have seen in the press since Obama was sworn in, I have little trust in ordinary letters to the editor not being planted. But that is not a USCF issue…
