To celebrate this fact the club held a 6 round two section swiss
August 12-14, 2011 in Portland Oregon. 180 players took part with a 4 way tie for
first in the open section and a clear 6-0 winner in the Amateur.
Susan Polgar scored 10-0 in her 10 board clock simul.

I assume (since it was less than 100 years ago) this is the same club I attended occasionally while a student at Reed College.
One of the club organizers was named Friedman (I don’t remember the first name). One of his favorite expressions was “defecate or release the chamber”, spoken after he had played (for example) a3, forcing the opponent to either retreat the bishop on b4 or capture the pinned knight on c3. (I don’t know which move was defecating and which was releasing the chamber.)
