From an organizer perspective…what ideas or methods are out there for efficient game score entry? The brute force method, carbonless-to-database is obvious and it would be great to get perspective on ways to mitigate or share the effort. I’m particularly interested in how this is handled for large weekend tournaments with 100+ players and 200+ game scores. Has anyone tried transcription services such as Amazon Turk?
The best method I’ve seen is to hire a couple of very strong (and computer savvy) players who are tasked with entering the games into a database. I’ve seen the same two IMs at several European tournaments doing this job. They are pretty impressive with how quickly they can input several hundred games a round. Of course, those events are also one round per day.
At the smaller events I run, I often scan both score sheets. That can help me with zooming in for ambiguous moves, and it also means I don’t have to get carbonless sheets.
