Most of the TD Tips don’t take up that much space in the rulebook and it’s not that hard to find the rules amongst the TD Tips. Most of the longer TD Tips can be trimmed down. For example, I’ve already suggested ways to considerably shorten the second TD Tip after rule 5C.
As I have pointed out before, the proposed 5C second TIP is not better or worse using the proposed language. Like the TIP offered here, neither one is likely to appear in the rulebook.
Actually, my proposed new wording is vastly better. For example, the current TD Tip states what time controls must be reported for a tournament that has different schedules that merge but does not state the procedure for tournaments with one schedule but with different time controls for different rounds. My revision makes it clear the same procedure applies to both.
My revision also shortens the TD Tip considerably, taking out a lot of redundant things that are already specifically stated in rule 5C and thus don’t need to be mentioned again in a TD Tip right after the rule, such as the following things that are currently in the TD Tip:
All of these things are specifically stated in rule 5C so why on earth do they need to be specifically mentioned again in a TD Tip right after rule 5C? (and just look at how awful the sentence that explains the time controls that are blitz rated is written in the TD Tip)
I assume you know the meaning of the expression I used Bill. Micah wanted to argue about whether something that probably shouldn’t even be in the rule book at all would be a rule or a TD tip. Kind of pointless, don’t you think?
That would defeat the purpose of providing a clean set of just the rules. And again you clutter the rules with things that are not rules thus confusing the issue.
Nope. I’ve brought up several times that the second TD Tip after rule 5C simply restates a lot of things that are already specifically stated in rule 5C and thus don’t need to be mentioned again in a TD Tip after rule 5C. No one has been able to come up with a reason as to why the TD Tip should restate these things. It’s like having a rule that says “Bishops move diagonally” and then a TD Tip right after it that says “Bishops move diagonally”.
You could be right, but the fact that nobody has responded to this complaint just might mean that it doesn’t really bother anyone except you. Repeatedly reposting or “bumping” it isn’t going to change that.
Bump should be a filtered word on forums. If a thread died, it most likely died for a reason. At least this bump wasn’t from a thread that died 6 months ago.
Note: I’m not against bringing a topic back up if you had additional information or the situation has changed. However, bump or just restating the same thing over and over isn’t valuable.
