The secretary of the Washington Chess Federation, Gary Dorfner reports that Bob died recently at age 79. He organized chess events all over the world, worked for CHESS in England for awhile, editor of NORTHWEST CHESS for many issues, President of Washington Chess Federation, active in postal chess and more. I don’t have an official obit yet.

Bob also served on the USCF Policy Board—a very honorable man.
All the best, Joe
He was also ICCF-US Secretary for over 5 years. This is the International Correspondence Chess Federation. He was the postal chess person for NORTHWEST CHESS for a number of years plus had his own postal group for awhile.

Robert Karch is one of those people who never grew older in my mind. So it comes as a shock to me that such a young man has died.

Mr.Karch was certainly a great advocate for chess, and is missed.
