Is there any way to search for tournaments in MSA by day of week?
No, why would that be useful?
Moreover, what day of the week would a Saturday-Sunday event qualify as, or the World Open, which runs most of a week?
Yes.
I would think if you could do a search by the day of the week, it would default to the starting date of the week.
I’m not really sure about the usefulness of a doing a search by the day of the week would be, other than for statistical purposes.
Most smaller tournament either are done on Saturday, or if its during the week, then normally at night, and depending on the format, could be stretched over several weeks in order to get enough rounds.
(For example, a club might run a Wednesday night monthly tournament, in which a single round is done every Wednesday night.)
Some tournaments have sections that are one-day events and other sections that are two-day (or longer) events.
Looking at events (rather than sections), here’s a breakdown of the ending date of the event and the length of the event for events ending between 9/1/08 and 8/31/09:

The “>9 day” column appears to be missing most of the one-game-per-week month-long tournaments that can be found in several clubs. Is it common practice to submit those as 1-day tournaments?
Oops, script error, the >9 column has been updated.
Hmm we ran a tournament that had a weekly round recently. (Or attempted to - the venue was a little erratic).
I guess these numbers suggest that Friday is probably the most common day of the week to run those type of tournaments. That doesn’t surprise me.
Some of the Friday numbers are no doubt are caused by long weekend tournaments.
No, this table is based on the day of the week that the tournament ended, not when it started, so Fri-Sat-Sun, Sat-Sun and Sun events are all in the ‘Sunday’ row.
Good to know. Thanks.
That reinforces the earlier idea that Friday is the probably the most frequent day of the week (other then Sat/Sun) to have tournaments that have a round a week.
If it is the case that most of the events that ran for more than 9 days are ‘one game a week’ events, then as I read the table Thursday is the most popular day of the week for those events, followed by Wednesday, Tuesday and then Friday.
Because Steve runs a one-day tournament every week, on the same weeknight each time.
