3-SS game/90 events are good for training.
Imagine such an event with nominal prizes. Since three games at G/90 does make for a longish day, there might be some withdrawals.
Is there a “mock quad” format (some variation of 1 vs 2 pairing) that folks have used in the past?
It seems to me that straight 1-vs-2 pairings accomplish most of the same goals as quads, without the number of players having to be a multiple of 4, and without dropouts causing such a mess.
Both 1-vs-2 and quads tend to pair players close to each other in rating.
About the only advantage of quads over 1-vs-2 is that with quads, all pairings are determined at the outset, so that in some cases games can begin early.
