I finally signed up for Lichess. In spite of my reservations of it’s android interface. But still, they make it easy to grab a game by have a few pre-selected time controls.
The “Classic” time control, which is only “classic” on a chess server, not OTB, is 15+15, I was wondering just about how long that would equate to in terms of a time control without incremental time.
On another page in Lichess, it equates the “classic” time control with at least 25 minutes or more, so I’m presuming that 15+15 would at a minimum equate to a 25 minute analog game.
It’s impossible to equate an increment time control with an “analog” time control, because the total time of the increment control depends on how many moves are played. For a 40-move game, 15 + 15 (assuming this means 15 minutes with a 15-second increment) would be the same as a “game in 25” time control with an analog clock (no delay or increment). For any other number of moves, it would be more or less than 25 minutes.
The rule of thumb is to assume 60 moves for a game. In the instance of G/15 inc/15, this would mean 30 minutes per player. This is the way both US Chess and FIDE evaluate time controls for ratability.
