Time controls and increments

If I have to disturb a player, it is because he is obscuring his scoresheet.

Since my comment is in the context of USCF rule 16o, he is doing nothing wrong and the TD should not be insisting on seeing the score itself because there is no “obvious” defect. In the context of FIDE rules it is a different matter. I’m with Scott. FIDE rules are unnecessarily intrusive.

That’s fine. I do not share that opinion.

Locally a club just started a 4rd 90/inc 30 after move 40 add 15 mins. aren’t you looking at a 5 hour game. This is exactly what I can’t get players to understand when they beg me to run FIDE controls over a weekend; that is at least a 13 hour day

Can you explain how two five hour games = a 13 hour day?

Alex Relyea

At 60 moves, that’s a 4 1/2 hour session.

I apologize was thinking two six hour games plus lunch

It’s probably at least a 13 hour day for the TDs.

They don’t count. :smiling_imp: :unamused:

FWIW, I’ve run many tournaments at 40/90, SD/30;+30 in the past nine years. I think I’ve always done rounds at 10 & 4, though I guess there were some variances in the first days. Only once have I not been done by 9. 40/90, SD/60;+30 is an entirely different kettle of fish.

I’ve directed at several FIDE norm tournaments with a time control of G/90 inc/30 and rounds at 10 AM and 3 PM. I don’t remember any time there wasn’t at least half an hour between the end of the last game of the first round and the start of the second round.
