Has anyone done something like a triple crown for small chess tournaments that are in circuit?
Here is my thought.
Jan tournament Lasker Wins
March tournament Steintz Wins
June Tournament Capa wins
August Tournament Capa Wins.
So Capa wins that circuit and at least a title.
But suppose it goes like this
Lasker-Capa-Lasker-Capa.
Then tie breaks are needed It make sense just to use cumulative tie-break system (assuming that this tournaments are Swiss). Even though the tournaments are different at leas the cumulative systems acknowledge that one had a tougher tournament. I suppose if one tournament is a round robin you could throw it out.
Moving along. Can the organizer add optional fees that qualify a person to win additional money if they win, something in the circuit (like first A)?
Anyway anyone tried anything like this any of these?
And yes I understand that the Triple Crown requires all races to be won. And that my model had four not three tournaments.
Actually, since the focus is on ‘local’ tournaments, I think it’s more like the Illinois Tour (if it still exists) or the Nebraska ‘Player of the Year’ competition.
The focus on Grand Prix events is master-level competition. Also, since there are numerous Grand Prix events every week, it’s not possible for someone to compete in all of them (much less win them all), which is what a ‘triple crown’ implies.
Alabama once had Heart of Dixie points awarded both for performance and attendance to encourage players to play in more events. It was a year long competition for both Open and Reserve section players. Lots of record keeping, but it did encourage more activity.
