U.S. Open, US Senior

Having tentatively planned to play in these two events this summer, I decided to lock in some reservations. Turns out, I can’t do this yet, at least and get the special rates. With the US Open, this is evidently an artifact of the block-of-rooms arrangement – can’t get a reservation until about a month from now. For the US Senior, the website seems unready and I understand from another thread in this forum that arrangements are being finalized. OK. None of this is a show-stopper, but when I played in the US Open in Vancouver, I made reservations a year in advance (and got 'em for about fifty bucks a night instead of the special chess rate of something like $110, BTW).

Am I that unusual in structuring summer activities this early?

Not at all. This is the time most people book for Summer and Fall conferences and events.
