US Chess rule 16A states:

“16A. Allowable time controls.

The US Chess office maintains a list, available on request, directly from the US Chess office or at [www.uschess.org](http://www.uschess.org), of the currently allowable time limits for different types of tournaments. See also 5C, Ratable time controls.”

Why on earth would someone need to request a list of allowable time controls from the US Chess office? The time control rules are clearly spelled out in rule 5C.

I suspect this rule predates the Internet. Unlike some rules, it does no harm by being superfluous.
