In the article, This Kid Outlasted Everyone In A 10-Person Chess Match Against The Best Player In The World
(businessinsider.com/daniel-l … z25nbIhFye) it is written that, “It’s been said that chess players peak at age 37, but many of the best don’t make it that far.”
Back in the 1960s it was said that a player peaked in the mid to late 30s, but I am not certain that is still true. I recall GM Soltis writing something about players peaking after six years, as far as rating is concerned. I recall it because it is applicable to me, as I was as ‘strong’ (and I use the term loosely) as I would ever get in 1976, after playing in my first tournament in 1970.
