Kramnik pulled out of the 2016 Sinquefield Cup starting this week due to health reasons, reportedly back trouble. Yet, today, Chessbase has a photo of Kramnik giving a simul in Europe. en.chessbase.com/post/kramnik-at … c-festival
Could this really be a case of politics. Note that Rex is close to Gary who ran against Kirsan in the last FIDE presidential election. In relation to the WCC in NYC scheduled for November (still no venue or sponsors announced), note that Vlad publicly made negative comments blaming Kasparov for Kirsan’s sanctions troubles with the US Treasury Dept. But, don’t forget…Chess, it’s just a game.
Exactly what I was thinking. Also, standing and walking around may be easier on the back than sitting, depending on the type of back problem. I remember a tournament where Tony Miles played lying down on a rolling cart (like a hospital gurney), because he had a back problem and sitting was too painful.
It doesn’t always have to be a conspiracy. I’m willing to take Kramnik at his word.
No, I have not. However, I have friends who have serious back issues. One prefers to sit with appropriate back support. The other cannot sit for more than 15 minutes before he has to stand up. I guess it depends on the individual and their condition.
It’s possible that he might be able to deal with the discomfort during a simul, but doesn’t feel up to playing against top caliber opponents over the course of several days. I’m not in the position to know and quite frankly, neither are you.
As a result, I’m not going to waste time arguing with you. Those looking for conspiracy theories will always be able to find them.
