'Wife Swap' seeks chess family

Good Day,

        My name is Serita M. Wesley; I am a casting producer with ABC Television’s documentary series Wife Swap.   We are still in search for great chess enthusiasts.  To be general, I am looking for a family in which either both of the parents or one of them, and/or the children participates in competitive chess.  My logic behind this outreach is that, chess is such a game of skill, patience and precision.  I wanted to find a family that practices all of these qualities in their everyday life with regards to the game of chess.  It is not my intention to solicit any of your member information, I am merely asking if you know of any families within your sector; that you would like to refer, you can either contact me or have them contact me directly.  Perhaps you could put the word out to some of your colleagues that have families who might be interested. · We air regularly every Wednesday nights at 8pm Eastern Standard time.

· The main requirements for the show are- must be a two parent family with at least one child in the home between 7 and 17 years of age. You must live in the continental US. Neither parent can have any current military affiliation.

· Wife Swap is a 10 to 11 day taping commitment. The mother will be gone for 6 or 7 days during this time.

· Every prospective family will go through a very extensive background and psychological test to ensure safety. ABC Television is a major network owned and operated by the Disney Corporation.

· Each family that participates in the program will receive a $20,000 honorarium upon airing of the episode and anyone who refers a family that makes it on to the show will receive a $1,000 finder’s fee.

I wonder if they’re having trouble filling this request. They were at a scholastic tournament here in St. Louis about two years ago with the same request/offer. They presented it briefly at a parents meeting between rounds. I was surprised at the reactions of some of the women in the meeting and their comments/assumptions that the “swapping” would encompass more than just temporary relocation.

I passed this on to a state scholastic organization officer who has at least two kids who play. His reply:

Could you elaborate as to why you find it amusing? I have an idea but I just wanted the full scoop. tia

“skill, patience, and precision”? Among chess players? When was the last time you went to a chess tournament and DIDN’T hear at least one person whine about having to wait for the next round to start each and every round? Does that sound like patience to you?

And outside the master sections, I wouldn’t say that there’s all that much skill and precision among chess players either. At least, not in my games.
