Does anyone know if WinTD 4.03 does color choices based on the 4th edition rules (currently variation 29E4d) or on 5th edition rules?

As far as I know 4.02 used the 5th edition rules for making pairings. I don’t know about 4.03 but I suspect it also uses the 5th edition rules.

As far back as 4.0 there was the pairing option to use the full color history. Check the pairing options.
Or test it for yourself.
Set up a situation where the higher-rated player has BWWB, and the lower- has WBWB (and the two players have the same score) and see what the program does. BWWB gets W = 4th edition. WBWB gets W = 5th edition.
