Women State Chess Champion

I was wondering how many states had an official Women’s State Chess Champion? Even if this is just the top female finisher in the regular state chess championship tournament being the designated champion. This is similar to the idea of having the top scoring female at the US Senior Championship being declared the US Women’s Senior Champion. I do not recall Illinois ever having such a designated champion ever! I do remember in the late 70s or early 80s Jules Stein holding a Women’s Midwest Championship tournament. However, the question is how many states have anything to recognize the adult female chess players within their state?

Here’s a table showing how many states have 3 more female current members active in the last year and rated 1600 or higher, and how many of those are under age 20.

23 players.

My link to the 2017 Washington State Women’s Championship did
not work for some reason. Guess the capture of tournament crosstables
does not last for a full year. I capture links to recent events all the time and
pass them along to NORTHWEST CHESS website.
Any way Washington State held an event in 2017 with 23 players.

Found a way to post the link to the 2017 Washington State Women’s State Championship
I think.

So based on the list provided there are only 25 “states” [plus -N- ] with 3 or more active female players over 1600. The other states could still designate the top female finisher at the annual state championship tournament as the state female champion. Remember that back in the 70s [& I think into the 80s] that there was no separation of the sexes for the FIDE World Youth tournaments, and that the top female finisher was the girls champion for the specific age group.

I should have filtered the null row out, those are foreign players.
