It has been reported on the Usenet that Stan Vaughan has trademarked the name “World Chess Federation.” This has been an official name of FIDE. The concept of “unfair competition” comes to mind.
It was reported by Stan Vaughan. This is the same Stan Vaughan who reported that he would be playing a match for the World Championship with Akobian, and that “his” American Chess Association was a direct continuation of the one that dealt with Morphy. Caveat lector.
…and is perhaps the same person who incorporated under the name of a state affiliate and presented corporate credentials to the U.S. Postal Service in order to gain access to, and control of, the affiliate’s Post Office Box? I believe I read about this in Chess Life several years ago.
